About Children's Mental Health Week 2018

With 1 in 5 children being directly affected by mental health, we simply can’t afford to neglect this very real and prevalent issue. This statistic is a reality for the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) in London, Ontario whose mission is to improve the lives of children and youth with mental health and developmental challenges. This is also why we are proud to once again support the annual Children’s Mental Health Week (CMHW) campaign taking place May 7-13, 2018.

The Volunteer Organization of CPRI (VOCPRI) and CPRI has had a number of successful Children’s Mental Health Week campaigns in previous years and we are striving to make the 2018 campaign the best one yet! Once again, we have come up with a creative way to bring awareness to children’s mental health, emphasizing the need to reduce the associated stigma and increase knowledge all across Ontario. This year we are focusing on child-friendly spaces and the recent research that supports why this matters.

Incorporating children’s personal artwork with a nature theme, has prompted us to begin a “Leaf Your Mark” initiative taking place throughout Children’s Mental Health Week. Leaf Your Mark will give youth an opportunity to decorate wooden leaves which will then be placed on a big painted tree wall in one of our main buildings. It will serve as a reminder to all whom enter our organization that we want children and youth to feel that they belong and are a part of the work we undertake at CPRI.
